High-manganese steel, a traditional wear-resistant material, exhibits an austenitic microstructure during use. Under intense impact and compressive loads, the surface of high-manganese steel castings undergoes work hardening, increasing the hardness from its original value of approximately 200 HBS to over 500 HBW.
